Sand Spurs & Peanuts
We jumped off I-10 and head south toward Port Arthur and the Gulf of Mexico. According to wikipedia… Port Arthur is “home to a large portion of United States refining capacity, it is now seeing renewed investment in several key installations.”
The oil industry is everywhere from the refineries to the offshore rigs. We rode the Gulf Breeze Highway into Louisiana and we stopped in Cameron. Stilted, beachside houses rose out of the dunes and protective breakwaters were just offshore. At this stop, I managed to fill the Sprinter with sand spurs which combined well with peanuts from the leftover Buc-Cees trail mix.
Gaslight Anthem, The ’59 Sound is the track I remember listening to while staring out the window looking at the refineries of Port Arthur and anticipating my first glimpse of the Gulf from Louisiana.
